The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, the world’s largest IT and consumer electronics exhibition, will open in Las Vegas, the U.S., on Tuesday.

Digital healthcare, along with artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and mobility, is expected to be a key theme of the show, with intense innovation competition anticipated between Korean and global companies.

According to the recently published report “CES 2025 Preview: CES Trends in Preview” by Samjong KPMG Economic Research Institute, more than 160 participants, representing over 800 Korean companies and organizations, will attend this year’s event. In addition to global tech giants like Google, Amazon, Nvidia, and Qualcomm, leading Korean firms such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, SK Telecom, and SK Hynix are expected to showcase their latest technologies and future visions.

Among the keywords to watch at CES 2025 is digital healthcare, which is expected to revolutionize healthcare through the convergence of AI and medical technology.

The global digital healthcare market was estimated to reach $171.9 billion (252.7 trillion won) in 2024, up 16.1 percent year over year. AI-based digital healthcare is expected to drive innovation in various fields, such as patient data analysis, medical image reading, and precision medicine.

Some of the major digital healthcare innovations unveiled last year include Abbott’s ultra-compact wireless pacemaker “AVEIR,” InBody’s big data-based body composition management system “Delta,” and 10minds’ AI anti-snoring solution “Motionsleep.” That laid the foundation for the emergence of digital healthcare as a key theme at this year’s CES.

Korea’s innovative digital healthcare technologies are also expected to be in the spotlight at this year’s event.

Among them, Braintech’s “BLINGs,” which creates new voices for people with communication disabilities, stands out. This technology is characterized by learning the voice data of each disabled person with AI to realize a natural voice. It is expected to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities by enabling them to communicate with their own unique voice.

Hanyang University’s VR-based digital therapy device “TD Square” has also been recognized for its innovation. TD Square, a digital treatment device for tinnitus patients, utilizes an integrated feedback system for hearing, vision, and touch. AI analyzes each patient’s tinnitus symptoms and provides a customized virtual reality treatment experience. In recognition of this technology, TD Square won the CES 2025 Best Innovation Award.

TD Square, developed with the support of the inter-agency full-cycle R&D program for medical devices, enhanced its clinical expertise through collaboration with the research team of Professor Choi June of the Department of Otolaryngology at Korea University Ansan Hospital.

Among the foreign entries, the “Bio Leg” developed by Japanese startup BionicM garners attention. This high-tech prosthetic leg for above-knee amputees combines an electric motor and multiple sensors to identify and respond to the user’s real-time walking situation. It has won a Red Dot Design Award for its ergonomic design. It is expected to improve the walking comfort of people with disabilities significantly.

This year’s CES will be held from Tuesday to Friday. CES is one of the world’s three largest ICT trade shows, along with MWC (The Mobile World Congress) in Spain and IFA (The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) in Germany. It was first held in 1967 and has been held in Las Vegas every January since 1998. The slogan for this year’s event is “DIVE IN — CONNECT. SOLVE. DISCOVER.”
