IIT Delhi Launches MS in Healthcare Technology for Medical Professionals, Starting January 2025

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced the launch of a new Master of Science (Research) in Healthcare Technology program, designed to bridge the fields of medicine and engineering. This specialized course, starting in January 2025, is aimed at medical and clinical professionals, providing them with the opportunity to integrate advanced technology into healthcare practice. Applications for the program are now open on the official IIT Delhi website.

Offered by the Centre for Biomedical Engineering (CBME), the program focuses on practical, research-oriented learning and encourages participants to explore cutting-edge topics such as precision medicine, biomaterials, medical implants, rehabilitation technologies, medical imaging, biomimetic models, and translational medicine. It aims to empower healthcare professionals with technological expertise, enabling them to develop innovative solutions for complex medical challenges.

Prof. Neetu Singh, Head of CBME, highlighted that the program fills a critical gap by offering an intermediate qualification between undergraduate and advanced research degrees, equipping healthcare practitioners with the skills necessary for independent research. Additionally, Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar emphasized the alignment of the program with national healthcare initiatives, stating that it has the potential to reshape India’s healthcare landscape by enabling medical professionals to lead technological innovation.

  • Project-Centric Approach: The curriculum is designed to provide hands-on experience, ensuring participants engage in practical research projects with real-world applications.

  • Entrepreneurship & Research Training: Participants will develop entrepreneurial skills and receive training in research methodologies, preparing them for roles in academia, industry, or advanced studies.
  • Fellowship Support: Enrolled students will receive fellowships comparable to entry-level salaries in the medical field, supporting their research journey and facilitating a smooth transition to PhD programs at IIT Delhi.
